A Budget Push for Windows on Arm
As of Thursday, August 13, 2026, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon C is shaping up as one of the more interesting low-cost laptop platforms of the year. The chip was originally announced on May 28, 2026, for entry-tier laptops priced around $300 and up, and Qualcomm gave a clearer look at the platform’s specifications on August 12, 2026. The aim is not to chase premium Snapdragon X Elite machines, but to bring Windows on Arm into the kind of affordable laptops used for school, web apps, video calls, streaming, and everyday documents. Snapdragon C Specs: What Qualcomm Has Shared
The Snapdragon C platform uses an 8-core Qualcomm Kryo CPU, with a claimed single-core maximum frequency of 3.0GHz and a multi-core maximum frequency of 2.0GHz. Tom’s Hardware also notes Qualcomm’s fine print describing four cores at 2.0GHz and three cores at 2.6GHz, with clarification still needed on how all eight cores behave at the same time. Memory, Storage, Wi-Fi, and Ports
For low-cost Windows laptops, the supporting platform details may matter as much as the CPU. Snapdragon C supports up to 16GB of LPDDR5, LPDDR5x, or LPDDR4x memory, along with PCIe 3.0 NVMe storage or UFS 2.2/3.1. Wireless connectivity comes through Qualcomm FastConnect C6700, with support for up to Wi-Fi 6/6E. On the wired side, Qualcomm lists up to USB 3.1, with support for up to two USB-C ports and two USB-A ports. The Battery-Life Claim Is the Main Hook
Qualcomm’s biggest pitch is efficiency. In its reference comparison, the company tested a Snapdragon C system with 8GB of memory against an Acer TravelMate using Intel’s N250 with 8GB of RAM. Qualcomm claims 67% better battery performance and up to 2.1x better battery efficiency, measured using multi-threaded Cinebench while on battery power. That is a notable claim for inexpensive laptops, where long battery life can be more useful than a thin metal chassis or high-refresh display. Still, this should be read carefully: Tom’s Hardware points out that Qualcomm did not publish plugged-in benchmark results, so we do not yet have the full picture of performance when power limits are less restrictive. Who Snapdragon C Laptops Are Really For
Snapdragon C laptops are likely to make the most sense for users who mostly live in a browser, Microsoft 365, streaming apps, email, notes, and video meetings. Qualcomm’s own positioning calls out students, families, and small businesses, and that framing feels right for this class of PC. The open question is how smoothly Windows on Arm feels at the $300 level, especially with older x86 Windows apps, budget display panels, limited RAM configurations, and manufacturer-specific build quality all affecting the final experience. If Acer, Asus, HP, and Lenovo can pair the platform with sensible memory, decent storage, and usable screens, Snapdragon C could make Arm-based Windows laptops feel much more mainstream. For now, it is best viewed as a promising budget platform with strong efficiency claims, not a proven replacement for every low-cost Intel or AMD laptop.
